Named the greatest guitar player of all time by Rolling Stone magazine in its recent “100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time” feature, there are few unfamiliar with the legendary songwriter and performer Jimi Hendrix. The guitar virtuoso’s playing style redefined rock and roll, infusing his unparalleled technical ability with an extreme and experimental sound that wowed audiences, changing music history for decades to come. On December 20th, Harmonix is proud to be adding seven classic Hendrix tracks to the Rock Band Music Store.

1968’s Hendrix-produced Electric Ladyland album features some of the musician’s most popular and enduring songs. Three songs from this classic – “Long Hot Summer Night,” “Gypsy Eyes,” and “All Along the Watchtower” – kick off the pack. An incendiary live performance of “Voodoo Child (Slight Return),” recorded at the legendary Woodstock festival, is also included in the pack. The pack of seven tracks also includes “Dolly Dagger” “Freedom” and “Angel” from First Rays Of The New Rising Sun. These songs were originally recorded for 1971’s Rainbow Bridge and The Cry of Love albums.

Pro Guitar and Pro Bass upgrades for two of the tracks, “All Along the Watchtower” and “Freedom,” will be available. Pro upgrades for previously available Hendrix songs, “Purple Haze” and “Little Wing,” will also be offered. A full list of the extensive catalog of Jimi Hendrix songs playable in Rock Band can be found here.

Available on Xbox 360, Wii™ and PlayStation®3 system (December 20th, 2011):

• The Jimi Hendrix Experience – “Long Hot Summer Night” O
• The Jimi Hendrix Experience – “Gypsy Eyes”
• The Jimi Hendrix Experience – “All Along the Watchtower” X

Pro Guitar/Bass Upgrades for Legacy Songs

(These tracks will be available in Europe on PlayStation®3 system December 21st)

The tracks will be available as “Experience Jimi Hendrix Pack 01,” with all songs available for purchase individually on Xbox 360, PlayStation®3 system and Wii™. Tracks marked with “O” feature support for keyboards; tracks marked with “X” will offer Pro Guitar and Pro Bass expansions for $0.99 per song.

Yes. Any Hendrix is welcome! But I still want the rest of Electric Ladyland as well. Hell yeah for All Allong The Watchtowe, Freedom and Angel.
Also, who wants to bet that Voodoo Child (Slight Return) is going to be insane on drums (especially cause it's a live cut from Woodstock no less)?

Continuing to make DLCQP awesome.
Why else would I still be here?!

Meh, kinda bummed out on Hendrix now after the last 2 albums we got. I'll get "All Along The Watchtower" and that'll pretty much be it for all the Hendrix I want. I'll check out the charts for the rest, but I doubt I'll get anything else. Was really hoping we'd get something new and exciting this christmas.

I wasnt expecting more Hendrix too. It just proves that Metallica still has a contract with GH/Activision, cause Rock Band would not be crazy to let pass the band's 30th anniversary in blank... Well... I'm not in the mood to get more Hendrix now.

Probably the most awkward album in the game so far to play on Guitar, with the exception of "Little Wing", "If 6 Was 9", and "One Rainy Wish". I hope these songs are charted closer to the quality of "Are You Experienced", all the songs on that album were pretty fun.

Because the rest of it isn't that good.

I bought the three main albums on disc a while ago, so I'm going to listen to it over the weekend and maybe prove you wrong.

It's the worst of his three albums, in my opinion, so I really don't mind. It has some great songs on it, but it also has a lot of mediocre and not as good songs...

Thank you Harmonix for no Christmas songs this year! Also this month has destroyed the lackluster month of November so far and still one more week yet.

Well, here's my take on the first two albums:

Experienced has some great pop sensibilities (Purple Haze, Foxey Lady, Fire) which are just classics, and the rest of it's just a good jam album. Hendrix and the drummer really did have incerdible skill. Beyond that, eh.

Axis: Perhaps more developed, but at times wonky and inconsistent. Had better song templates, but they could have made them longer and put more stuff in the tunes and it would have become even more of a classic.

Would've preferred a master of Voodoo Child, but it's all good.

I have a feeling drums and guitar will follow the path of the live version of Fire:

Drums - More fun than master
Guitar - More annoying than master

The lack of Voodoo Chile makes me sad :(

Anyway, I'm getting the songs from ELL, mostly because that's all I have money for.
