Hey gang,

Portland, Oregon rock band Everclear had their first hit with “Santa Monica,” the fourth track off of 1995’s Sparkle and Fade. The track, which found radio popularity despite never officially being released as a single, comes to the Rock Band Music Store complete with a Pro Guitar and Pro Bass upgrade.

“The Anthem,” Good Charlotte’s second single off of their second album, 2002’s The Young and the Hopeless, is also on its way to the Music Store. The catchy, uptempo track was a hit for Good Charlotte, and quickly climbed the charts worldwide.

Since their formation in 2000, Mastodon has won over metal fans and critics with their dense, monstrous sound and complex compositions. In 2011, the band released The Hunter, featuring the Grammy nominated track “Curl of the Burl,” which rounds out a trio of singles slated to hit the Rock Band Music Store on March 6th.

Available on Xbox 360, Wii™ and PlayStation®3 system (March 6th, 2012):

* Everclear – “Santa Monica” X
* Good Charlotte – “The Anthem”
* Mastodon – “Curl of the Burl”

(These tracks will be available in Europe on PlayStation®3 system March 7th)

Tracks marked with “X” will offer Pro Guitar and Pro Bass expansions for $0.99 per song.

Price:

$1.99 USD, £.99 UK, €1.49 EU (160 Microsoft Points, 200 Wii Points™) per song

$0.99 USD (100 Wii Points™/80 Microsoft Points), £0.59 UK, €0.79 EU per song for eligible Pro Guitar/Pro Bass upgrade

** Dates for Rock Band game tracks are tentative and subject to change. **

The worst Pro upgrade they could have picked. Just...the absolute worst. If the apologists could have had a case against meerely picking the easiest songs, they don't now. Just, this one really frustrates me.

Good week all round, though.

This is a really meh week for me....I don't really like any of those bands... Well at least Mastodon and Good Charlotte. I am not sure if i have heard Everclear before. I have to give it a listen. Still getting everything, but I won't like it.

Just gave the Everclear song a listen, I don't really like it. If it wasn't for me trying to have everything, I would not buy any of these songs.

Yes. Their worst song.

By fucking miles. This is what you SHOULD be pointing to as an example of a sellout song/record.

I take that back, I heard Anthem before, it's a pretty OK song. Maybe I will like a song this week. I also heard that Mastodon song on the radio. It's a bad song and the only good part about it is the drums.

Don't want to be just like you
What I'm sayin' is
This is the anthem throw all your hands up
Y'all got to feel me sing if you're with me
Don't want to be you

I have to stop you right there Zero. While yes, the lyrics may be corny. They actually mean something. I can relate to that song, I am in the minority and don't want to be with the in-crowd. You may find it really corny and useless, but there are some people like me that can relate.

I don't really get it when people say The Hunter is a sellout record in the negative sense.
Yes it launched them into the mainstream, but it's still a great album.
I'll admit I prefer Crack the Skye, but this band is known for changing things up every other album.

I can relate too, but I don't think every song that espouses that sort of message is of equal quality, and the message here is delivered in such a profoundly stupid way that it has no merit in my eyes.

Yes. I will get all of these. One more EBA song down! And one AOBH song as well. Needs moar The Wolf Is Loose or Crack The Skye, IMO. I'm sure there are PLENTY more Mastodon songs to go with.

Helping to make DLCQP awesome.
Why else would I still be here?!

To be fair, it sounds like one of the better pop songs from the late 90s. That was the era I grew up around and always heard in my cartoon movies. They had that kind of pop/punk, pop/rock, and ska music. I loved it to death, maybe that's why I don't mind it so much, because it sounds like one of those songs. Before I was into classic rock and everything, I was into that type of music. The Digimon Movie soundtrack is one of the pinnacle soundtracks of my childhood.

Hey, normally, I'm with you (there's a pun). Light Grenades? Fucking underrated. The Hunter, I feel, lost a lot of its power and its integrity as metal. Hell, you could barely call it that.

I'mm all for trying to branch out and maybe even deliberately try to get with the "in" crowd, but The Hunter is this generation's 21CB in terms of trying to get into the tween's pants at the cost of musical quality.

I don't think that's what they did though. They just made songs. Most of them were based off things they wrote on their previous tour.
You're right, it's a different Mastodon. I think you just don't like how they've changed, which is alright. But I don't think it justifies labeling them as sellouts.

They shed off way too much of their former sound. The Hunter is a generic album, and Mastodon are generally known for being unique. This is what kills most bands in the eyes of RYM and Pitchfork.

I love how you referenced to 21st Century Breakdown. Anyways, I think the Hunter aside from my biased, is still a pretty decent album. It may not be the that great of a Mastodon album but it's still not as bad as you are making it out to be. Also, 21CB isn't all that bad of an album either if you give it around 5 listens or so. I hated it to death at fist, but then I ended up liking all but like two songs on it. I am hoping their new album will bring back their punk side, as it sounds like it is and they say it's supposed to be more like Dookie. Maybe even Nimrod. There are supposedly around 30 songs on their new album and it's supposed to come out this year. I can't wait.

I like Mastodon, even The Hunter, so that's a definite, maybe the Anthem for EBA memories. Still hoping for more from Blood Mountain and Crack the Skye.
