For the qualifying round, is the higher total cumulative score best? Like, should I look for songs that I scored the highest on? Never done a tournament before, so it's a learning process.

Totally up to you as to what you want to pick, as long as the songs fit the criteria listed in the rules in the first post.

Some have opted to play songs that can generate a really high score if you do well on them - there are songs out there worth 500,000 or more points on vocals, some of which have a fairly low difficulty rating. Some (like myself) just found three songs they liked and felt they could do pretty good on that fit the criteria.

No one is eliminated during Part 1 of qualifying, it's just a way of seeding participants into groups for the four-song setlists that determine if you're going to the Championship Division or Consolation Division. Some players who might be really good won't care where they're seeded because they feel they can do a great job on just about any song, regardless of who they're matched up against.

how are you going to make sure people dont use more than one mic/person for solo vocals? just a concern.

There's not much I can do about that. I can't make everyone send in video of them performing each song. Not everyone can do that, plus it'd be kinda creepy.

Again, it's a case of let the buyer beware. Know what you might be getting into when you sign up for this.

If anyone suspects someone is not being honest about the scores they send in or if anyone knows someone entered has a history of cheating, send me your concerns and be able to back them up.

I was wondering if this topic might come up. Best to address it now.

Some call squeezing cheating, some don't. All you're doing is pausing the game at points during a song, but you are also taking advantage of a glitch.

This is a very hard thing to police and I can't really stop anyone who wants to do it from doing so. I have no objection to those who wish to do it - you likely have to anyway if you're trying to get near the top of the leaderboards.

There's a thread on ScoreHero that shows you how to do it. There are probably other sites/forums that show you how, too. Vocals aren't my primary instrument, so I haven't really paid much attention to how to do it.

So it's a case of let the buyer beware, I guess. Those who play vocals as their primary instrument likely know all about this, anyway.

This could be a dealbreaker for some as to whether they sign up, and that's fine. It's your decision to make. I'm just playing for fun and hopefully the majority of entrants are, too. I know I have no chance of winning, but am curious to see if I can at least stay close with some of the elite-level players on a song or two.

Hello everyone,

Like to sing? Like free stuff?

Then welcome to the dlcquickplay vocals tournament! Here's what you need to know:

THE BASICS

- This is a solo vocals tournament. No harmonies, please.

- Entrants must be registered on dlcquickplay.com and have a camera to show your results.

- Submit your scores to me via private message with a photo of your score at the end of the song (not your leaderboard score) as proof. Ensure your gamertag can be seen in the photo to confirm your identity.

- Play all your songs in online mode. Pictures of your score submissions should include either where you rank on the leaderboard or how your score measures up against friends you play with. For Wii users, playing in local online mode is acceptable (and probably preferable for most, since it eliminates skips).

- Do not play songs with other band members.

- Responsible gamers only, please. Participants are on the honour system here. If you suspect someone is not playing honestly or someone entered has a shady gaming history, please send me your concerns and be able to back them up.

THE FORMAT

Based on the feedback I got for the drums tournament, I figured the most important thing to work on was keeping more people interested longer. People are either signing up and dropping out, or playing a round or two then dropping out once they have to face a really good opponent, because they either don't think they have a chance or just don't care.

Nothing will change that mentality entirely, but I can try to minimize the impact. So here's what I've come up with:

QUALIFYING ROUND (PART 1) - October 22 to November 4

All entrants will choose three songs from their dlc list (you can choose disc songs, too).

One song must have a difficulty rating of 0 to 2.
One song must have a difficulty rating of 3 or 4.
One song must have a difficulty rating of 5 or 5+.

Do not choose any songs that are longer than six minutes.

I will add up a total score for all three songs and that total score will be used to determine your seeding for Part 2 of the qualifying round.

Ties for any position will be broken first by score on the 5 or 5+ song, then score on the 3-4 song, then score on the 0-2 song.

I will start a sign-up thread in the next post. Do not add your name to the sign-up thread until you have sent your scores for this round to me via private message.

Deadline for score submissions is Sunday, November 4 at 11:59 p.m., Eastern Standard Time.

QUALIFYING ROUND (PART 2) - November 5 to 11

I will compile all the scores and seed participants into groups of four based on your total score from Part 1 of qualifying.

For example, with 32 people, you'd do it like this:

Group A - No. 1, 16, 17, 32
Group B - 2, 15, 18, 31
Group C - 3, 14, 19, 30
Group D - 4, 13, 20, 29
Group E - 5, 12, 21, 28
Group F - 6, 11, 22, 27
Group G - 7, 10, 23, 26
Group H - 8, 9, 24, 25

*** If the number of entries isn't a multiple of four, some divisions will have three people in them.

Everyone in each group picks one song from your common dlc (or disc songs if there is no common dlc) to make a four-song setlist. Pick different songs than the ones you selected in Part 1 of qualifying. There are no restrictions from this point on as to song length or difficulty rating.

I will add up your scores for this round for a total score. The top two finishers in each group based on total score will advance to the Championship Division, and the bottom two (or one, depending on the number of entries) will advance to the Consolation Division.

Deadline for score submissions is Sunday, November 11 at 11:59 p.m., Eastern Standard Time.

ELIMINATION ROUNDS

Same setup as the second round of the qualifying tournament - groups of four, everyone picks one song. I add up your scores and the top two finishers in each group based on total score move on.

Continue to pick different songs each round.

Set up the divisions like this, based on the 32-player example:

Championship

Group 1 - First Group A, First Group B, Second Group C, Second Group D
Group 2 - First Group C, First Group D, Second Group A, Second Group B
Group 3 - First Group E, First Group F, Second Group G, Second Group H
Group 4 - First Group G, First Group H, Second Group E, Second Group F

Consolation

Group 5 - Third Group A, Third Group B, Fourth Group C, Fourth Group D
Group 6 - Third Group C, Third Group D, Fourth Group A, Fourth Group B
Group 7 - Third Group E, Third Group F, Fourth Group G, Fourth Group H
Group 8 - Third Group G, Third Group H, Fourth Group E, Fourth Group F

With 32 players, you'd have a top 16 in the championship round and a bottom 16 in the consolation round. Each round would then be pared down to 8, then 4 in the final.

*** Again, if the number of entries isn't a multiple of four, some divisions will have three people in them.

TIMELINE

Two weeks for Part 1 of qualifying, one week for Part 2 of qualifying and each elimination round.

PRIZES

To the winner of the Championship Division: A 2000 Wii points card, 1400 Microsoft points card, or $20 Playstation Network card of your choice.

To the winner of the Consolation Division: A Classic Rock track pack for Wii or Xbox users, or Track Pack Vol. 2 for PS3 users.

OR

If the winner is from outside North America and can't use either the points cards or track packs, I have extra mics that I can ship out to ya. If the winner is from North America and wants the mic instead, that's fine, too.

SO WHY DO IT THIS WAY?

1. Keep people more involved - the more songs you play, the more you feel like you still have a chance to be competitive. And with two people advancing per group per round, if you don't think you can finish first, you still have a shot.

2. There's a greater chance for ties on vocals - with four songs to pick from in a round, it reduces that possibility.

3. It's still one song, one vote. I hate having to do a best-of-three where I have to pick the third song. I'd rather leave the song choices in the hands of those who actually have to play them.

Plus I'm going to enter this tournament, too, and there'd be a perception of bias if I was picking songs for other matchups while competing in one myself - and I'd need someone else to pick a third song for whomever I was matched up against.

Not a big fan of the bracket setup, either. It didn't work all that well in the guitar tournament -- not because the format was bad, but because people were dropping out, again because they became disinterested or because they saw someone really good they'd have to play right away and just gave up.

Any questions/concerns, let me know. Good luck!

Hello everyone,

We're down to the final two players in the drums tournament. The championship matchup (seedings in parentheses) is:

(1) llamajobuddy vs. (3) Josch22

Guidelines are as follows:

-- You and your opponent pick one song each from the dlc you have in common. There are no restrictions as far as difficulty rating or length of song go. If you have no common dlc, play a disc song.

-- Choose different songs than the ones you played in previous rounds.

-- This is a two-song, total-score battle. The winner is the player with the highest score when totals from both songs are added up. In case of a tie, I will pick a tiebreaker song of difficulty rating 5 or 5+ from your common dlc (or, again, a disc song if there's no common dlc) to play. You will have 24 hours to submit a score for the tiebreaker song.

-- Please try and get in touch with your opponent as soon as possible so you can pick your songs. The sooner you pick, the sooner you can play. If you are having trouble getting in touch with your opponent, please let me know. As long as you submit a song selection, even if your opponent doesn't, you will advance.

-- Once you and your opponent have chosen your songs, send me a private message with your setlist so I know what to expect when you submit your scores.

-- Continue to send me scores via private message with a photo of your score at the end of the song (not your leaderboard rank) as proof. Continue to ensure your gamertag can be seen in the photo to confirm your identity.

Deadline to complete this round is Sunday, October 21 at 11:59 p.m., Eastern Daylight Time.

Any questions/concerns, let me know.

Good luck!
