I think what some of you need to remember is that there are people just like you and me, with young families, mortages, bills to pay etc who are losing their jobs, it's them that are the ones that really suffer with this. --- Has the dawn ever seen your eyes?
Have the days made you so unwise?
Realize, you are.

As a player of both games, I feel sad that it's completely going away. I had (and will continue to have) many great times with the games in the series. It was a long time coming, but I think they could've tried to fix it up. My sincerest condolences to the employees.

I'm not being a dick, activision ruined the genre by oversaturating the market with shitty versions of great games, copying Rock Band (and Harmonix) at every turn, putting out inferior products but STILL Selling more than the superior brand by the superior rhythm game developers.
I have absolutely no shame saying a big fuck you to activision and all the fanboy tards who kept insisting guitar hero was better when by every objective comparison it wasn't.
Shitty Games. shitty DLC, shitty Fans, I'm entirely glad it's going away. To me this is a massive victory for the genre.
I do feel bad about the many, MANY people who lost their jobs and I don't wish that on anyone, but in the name of GOOD GAMES, I'm rejoicing that one less shitty knockoff is no longer made.
If they made decent games, didn't succeed in milking the franchise dry, and actually supported a good amount of DLC, then you know what...? I would be sad.
Harmonix never really were 'competing' with Neversoft, they didn't copy or let Neversoft influence them, they were always the ones with the ideas and innovation, they don't NEED competition to do good.

Umm, no. Guitar Hero was inspired by Guitar Freaks which was made by Konami. Only Power Gig copied Rock Revolution.
It's too bad that Konami felt like they had to bastardize their existing IP to compete in the North American market.
Considering how big of a failure Rock Revolution was, you can only assume that there's no possible way that a port/localization of the GF/Dm series could've done worse. It would've been unique, what with the upwards scrolling notes, individual music videos, various modifiers, etc.
I think it was someone on RBA who was talking about Konami's inability to get a grasp on what exactly their fanbase here actually is. They've been focusing on trying to create a casual fanbase (recent North American DDR releases, beat'n groovy, Rock Revolution), and completely overlooking the fact that they've had a "hardcore" fanbase here for almost a decade and a half now (GF/Dm, Pop'n, IIDX, etc.), and that if the product is good enough, people will try it out, regardless of the difficulty curve.
I always thought that there was hope somewhere down the line for Konami to get back into the scene with a REAL release, but Guitar Hero biting the dust has probably made it so that no publisher/developer wants to go near the genre for awhile, much less one that's already made a flop.

Any news about online gameplay? I'd assume they'd shut down servers if they're going on a hiatus. ---

Why do people think this they are not going to shut down the servers. People still play them and some bought it for online. (not me but still). Also there are achievements for online. And you can't stop people from getting achievements.

why would I need to do that? there's a difference between having a dirty mouth and being bluntly honest. Guitar hero Deserved to go, without them Rock Band would probably still be popular.

No people would be sick of Rock Band also by now. The internet is not an accurate representation of enthusiasm for these games. People would rather either play Dance Central, FPS games, or shitty waggle games for Wii.

Uh... yeah you can. EA has done it to dozens of games, and continues to shut down servers.
Will this happen with Guitar Hero? Probably not. Activision doesn't host their own servers over Live the same way that EA does, so they won't be forced to clear out any neglected server space.
Even if they were to cancel Guitar Hero's online play, it wouldn't be that quick. It would probably be years down the road when the series is long forgotten. --- Life is excellent, the tap water tastes like excrement, the skies rain poison, and I gotta pay the rent!

If I am wrong I will admit I am wrong easy. Can you just tell me one game on the 360 that EA shutdown servers for and can no longer get achievements more. While not EA the only game I can think of is 1 versus 100. But that was freeish. Either way the odds of shutting down the guitar hero servers anytime in the near future is about 0.

Just one?
Pretty much every EA-released sports game 2008 or earlier has also been shutdown, many of which had a few Xbox Live achievements.
NBA Live '07 for instance had an achievement for playing online with over 1,000 people also playing the same game online. It was only achieved on two circumstances when various gaming communities united in order to get the achievement. I know because I was in one of those sessions. --- Life is excellent, the tap water tastes like excrement, the skies rain poison, and I gotta pay the rent!

They should shut down the servers for GH, no one plays that shit online.

Sorry I will admit I was a little wrong on the server thing. But the odds of them taking down the servers of guitar hero sre slim. And I have played about 3 sports games my whole life and never more then 2 hours of play time on all 3.

Guitar Hero saturated the market with discs and Rock Band did it with DLC. Both companies are to blame.

I disagree that it's possible to oversaturate a music store with music. The more choices, the better the store is. ---
