You know, I'm going to stop calling myself a metalhead. I actually hate entire genres of metal, Groove is an example of a genre where I only like 2 bands. I am a proghead.
In that case, listen to Damnation by Opeth. It has no gutteral vocals and it's better than Heritage. ---  |

We got At The Drive In. I don't see how Mars Volta isn't a possibility.
I wouldn't really call Mars Volta an indie band. I mean, they've released albums under two of the big four record labels so far (UMG and WMG). ---

Mars Volta is Prog, not Indie. At least I think they're Prog.
But yeah, what's with the lack of indie? I love indie bands, and I'm hoping for some Best Coast, Los Campesinos, Rooney, etc. ---

Hey now, not all good metal has those type of vocals. Just the more recent metal.
I do love me some Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Ozzy, Municipal Waste, (New) Testament, etc, etc.
Also love me some gutter and screams. ---

Yes, but most of today's metal can be identified with "GRRRR BREEEE BLARGG!!!!" vocals. If you can't enjoy that, then you're more of a "classic metalhead" then an all-around metalhead. This is implying that sung vocals are OK with a person who likes growled vocals, that is. ---

Why does no one else do that? :( Though I do detest pig squeals, only type of vocal work I can't stand. ---

That's what I do. While my mom is a vocals/lyrics person, I'm into the instrumentation and such. I'm just saying that I tend to also enjoy a bit of the guttural vocals, as well as sung vocals. Hell, I do enjoy an occasional pig squeal, as long is it's not like Death Quota For Purification. ---
