I don't really want to brag too much, but I am a relatively experienced Rock Band drummer. I have gold-starred some pretty tough songs: Ride the Lightning, No One Knows, 25 or 6 to 4, Give it All, The Trees, Tornado of Souls, Poison Was The Cure, Humanoid, Hangar 18, The Killing Moon, Rock Lobster, The Camera Eye, Working Man (both versions), Tom Sawyer (both versions), Bad Reputation, Souls of Black, Ramblin' Man, Viva La Resistance, and even Roundabout, among so many others.
Meanwhile, I have a dismal three-star 84% on this song with no fail on. There isn't any particular section about this song that is hard, it's just the whole song is pretty much a slugfest of super fast complex beats with about as much variation with the bass petals as you could ask for. It's like the intro to Holy Wars... The Punishment Due on steroids going on for five consecutive painful minutes. It's easily the hardest drum song on RB3 and it definetly gives Dream Genie a run for its money.
However, the reason why I don't like this song isn't because it's too hard (I love hard drum songs, even if it's something crazy like We Are The Nightmare or Rebirth). The reason why i don't like this song is because it's extremely repetitive and fast to the point where it will tear up your arms and wrists during a grind.
Harmonix is also guilty of overcharting the crap out of the beats (adding unnecessary hi hat notes and bass petals that don't need to be there) so that they could make this song a devil-tiered song so that this song could be the all-instrument devil-tiered song in RB3 like Painkiller was in RB2. Other on-disc songs in RB2 and RB3 that are on this level of hard like Panic Attack, Visions, Beast and The Harlot, Caught in a Mosh, Radar Love, etc. are at least fun to play and not a slap in the face like this.
Drum challenges are fun (see Megadeth and Rush), but not when it gets super repetitive with too much petal variation to handle and it's overcharted. It's INCREDIBLY annoying to play and I don't recommend this at all to the casual drummer on a regular day.
